Habesha Wedding A&Y

I was so lucky that I was given the opportunity to take part in a cultural Habesha wedding. Weddings that are traditional and rich in anothers culture have always been some of my favorite to shoot because I get to learn how other cultures celebrate the union of marriage and what kind of ceremony and reception they have. When A contacted me about photographing her wedding I was so excited and thrilled that I could spend my 2 days with the couple and their closest family and friends.

The wedding dress that A chose for her special day was stunning; a beaded corset top and a large skirted bottom made the dress look like it was made for a Princess from a fairytale. Her shoes were silver high heels with a lace pattern to them resembling some of the beaded work on the top of the strapless dress. Her veil was dotted with crystals that shone when they caught the light, as well as long chandelier earrings. By the time A was dressed, she looked like she had walked right off the pages of a fairytale! Bright blue was her color of choice and the bridesmaids dresses looked absolutely gorgeous; long and flowing with a band of rhinestones for some sparkle. This color really made A’s dress take centerstage and framed it beautifully.

There were many culturally traditional dresses and suits on display at the wedding and some people were even playing the drums. Following the ceremony, A changed her hair and put it up and used a small hairpiece, and she even changed her dress as well to a fitted white mermaid dress with lace details. Once the happy couple arrived at the reception, the feast and fun began. The drums began to play again throughout the night as everyone danced and enjoyed one anothers company. A and Y couldn’t stop smiling; it really was the perfect 2 days.

Congratulations to the happy couple!
